Todd McFarlane

Todd McFarlane was born on March 16th 1961, in the city of Calgary in Alberta Canada. When working on comicbooks he does the writing, the penciling, the inking, and the publishing. In 1992 McFarlane won the Inkpot Award, an award that has been given out annually since 1974 by Comic-Con International. He has also apart of the National Cartoonists Society an originization of proffesional cartoonists.

McFarlane gained popularity in the late 1980's early 1990's while he worked at Marvel Comics Spider-Man. He was the first artist to draw Venom(the Spider-Man Villan) McFarlane left Marvel because he wanted to write his own comic books. Image Comics was born in 1992 founded by Rob Liefeld, Jim Lee, and Todd McFarlane all coworkers at Marvel. They created Image so comic book writers and artist could publish their own creations without giving up copyrights to those properties. McFarlane felt undervalued working at Marvel, he was not paid extra when his art was reused for merchandise. With the freedom to create any charcter at Image and own the rights to them, McFarlane created a anti-hero named Spawn. McFarlane

McFarlane attended college at Spokane Falls Community College but that only lasted a year, next he would attend Eastern Washington University because of a baseball scholarship. He loves baseball, During his junior year in college be beleived that he was going to play baseball professionally, but an injury during a game would cause that dream to fade. During his injury he would spend more time illustrating and working in a comic book shop. Now that he has money McFarlane has a pretty impressive baseball card collection with some record breaking cards.
